Best places to visit in Saigon

Best places to visit in Saigon

Saigon a.k.a Ho Chi Minh City is one the two main cities in Vietnam. The number of Saigon tourists is now greatly increased over the time. More and more people travel to Saigon. Looking for the answer to this, it can be seen that there are so many interesting places to visit in Saigon. Below are some suggestions of https://www.hellovietnam.com/ for your perfect holiday in this young and vibrant city.

1.    Central Post Office and Notre-Dame cathedral

Designed and built by the same French architect who designed Eiffel Tower in Paris - Gustave Eiffel, the Central Post Office in Ho Chi Minh is a glorious example of French colonial architecture. Existing for over a century, the building still retains its ancient charm. Inside, beneath a long, domed roof, the hall is decorated in French architecture style in colony time. The building still functions as the city’s main post office
The neo-Romanesque Notre-Dame Cathedral was constructed by French colonists is one of the few remaining strongholds of Catholicism in the largely Buddhist Vietnam. The name Notre Dame was given after the installation of the statue ‘Peaceful Notre Dame’ in 1959. This church is famous not only for the religious value but also the beautiful gothic architecture style that makes it one of the must-see in Ho Chi Minh City.

2.    Reunification Palace

Home of the president of South Vietnam during the war period, this site has a great historical value, where the first tanks of Vietnamese communist smashed down the gates in 1975, leading to the independence of Saigon and Vietnam. That’s where the name comes from. The palace opens from 7.30am to 4 p.m. and there are free guided tours that depart every 15 minutes.

3.    Ben Thanh Market and Tan Dinh Market

Ben Thanh Market, located in the center of the city, is biggest and the most famous market in Saigon. There are more than 3000 stalls and you can find almost everything here. Though people come here for a lot of reasons, it’s popular for the cuisine. Food stalls offer many local dishes, not only Saigon specialty, but foods from other regions are also presented like Vietnamese savor crepe, spring rolls, Southern noodle soup, stuffed pancake …Tan Dinh Market, though lesser-known, is a paradise for those love silks and clothing material. In most markets, there are some stalls with “fixed price” signs. However, you can ignore those and start bargaining because the price is flexible here.

4.    Dong Khoi area

This is where Saigon nightlife begins. Someone used to tell me, here in Saigon, people don’t sleep and the night is when a day begins. There are a lot of things to do at night in Saigon. If your budget permits, you can join some rooftop bars. Even though it might be expensive, but the experience is priceless. Dong Khoi area is home to several live-music venues and upmarket bars. If you really want to know more about the life of locals, then you should definitely try this out.

5.    Mekong Delta

Coming to Mekong Delta, the “rice bowl” of Vietnam is a distinctive experience. It’s not far from the city center, however, it's another world that totally different from the busy and modern lifestyle of the city. Here you can find markets, houses, and schools floating upon the river. The boat is the only way to travel around. Try to go to the floating market and buy some local products. Let yourself enjoy the beauty of the countryside in every pace of life.

6.    Cu Chi tunnels
Cu Chi Tunnels is 30 kilometers away from Ho Chi Minh City. Despite the distance, this is the place worth visiting. Come here and you can see for yourself what it must have been to live in wartime. This is a way for Vietnamese soldiers to move around without being detected by the enemies. A guided tour allows you to explore the tunnels firsthand or even fire an AK-47.There is a documentary, followed by a guided tour of some mock recreations of a daily life of the Viet Cong. And then everyone gets to crawl through a small section of the tunnels which have been widened and supported with concrete.
